 Reflexology for pregnancy &

Maternity reflexology is simply reflexology used to nurture you and your baby on a physical, emotional and spiritual level - pre-conceptually, throughout pregnancy, the birth itself and during the postnatal period. It can be used safely in the three trimesters of your pregnancy and as a method of priming your body for labour. It is a gentle , non invasive and relaxing treatment on your hands or feet to balance the body and mind.

Pre conception

Trying for a baby can be both exciting and stressful. For some couples it happens quickly but for others it can take time. Being in the most relaxed and balanced state both physically and emotionally will benefit your attempts. Reflexology can help to balance any hormonal issues especially if you are feeling overwhelmed.

During pregnancy

Reflexology helps to facilitate deep relaxation and reduce stress. It can assist in preventing or alleviating many of the common symptoms associated with pregnancy, such as:

  • Morning sickness

  • Heartburn

  • Hormonal and menopausal imbalances

  • Nausea and headaches

  • Back Pain

  • Swelling and discomfort

  • Oedema

  • Insomnia

  • Digestive problems/constipation

Birth Preparation

There are many points on your feet and hands that can be used to prime your body for labour, such as the pituitary, thyroid, bladder, uterus and ovary reflexes. Of course, you will start labour when ready, but reflexology over these points will help, and the relaxation achieved is incredibly effective to help kickstart the whole process. A reflexologist will not "induce" your labour as this is a Medical process and a decision that needs to be made with your lead caregiver.

Women can feel both jubilant and exhausted as well as experiencing other conflicting emotions after the baby's birth. Loss of sleep, breastfeeding problems, frustration and fatigue etc. can all take its toll on the new family. A reflexology treatment can be wonderful at this time for you as well as helping with other conditions associated with the postnatal period.
